Leaving Finger Prints

Happy Friday! We hope everyone enjoyed their week. To close the week of guest book ideas we are going to continue the artsy theme from yesterday.

A marriage joins two families as one and usually doubles the size of your family tree. The wedding is a perfect time to have a “tree” to combine the two sides. As pictured below, having different color paints (of your choice, of course!) for your guests to leave their finger print gives the tree its leaves. Don’t forget to leave a pen so they can sign by their prints! guest book ideas cameron and martin

A Piece of Art

Many of you have probably seen beautiful wedding photos framed with a mat signed by all the guests, a great wedding memento for your home. Today we are going to put a little twist on that idea. Have someone paint a picture of a “scene” from your wedding location, the historic church where the ceremony will take place or maybe the river front area that will be the place of your reception, and have your guests sign the painting. Enjoy this visual, thanks to Azelle Photography!

A Photo Book

Engagement pictures  are such a fun and exciting experience and a great way for your wedding photographer to get to know you and your soon-to-be spouse. The pictures are nice to have displayed at a wedding shower and perfect for an announcement in the paper, but can easily be put thrown in a cabinet the minute your wedding pictures arrive. Today’s idea for a guest book is sure to extend the shelf life of the engagement pictures – create a photo book of your engagement pictures and have your guests leave messages throughout the book. This book can accompany your wedding album on the coffee table and you can read  and re-read the sweet comments from your guests while enjoying your engagement pictures.

Turn it into a Game

Today’s idea for a “guest book” will have your loved ones wanting to stand in line to sign – use a game such as Jenga or a puzzle. Ask that they include a bit of advice or a sweet message for you, along with their name. Playing the game or putting the puzzle together will always have a special meaning!

Updated Guest Books

Happy Monday! We hope everyone enjoyed the weekend.

With all the excitement on your wedding day it may be a difficult to remember all your loved ones that came to support you, especially years down the road. Having a guest book helps trigger your memory and is always fun to look through and reminisce. This week we are going to shy away from the standard, lined-paged, white book and share creative ways to incorporate a “guest book” into your wedding.

Today’s idea is great for destination weddings….a book on the city of your wedding location. This allows your guests to write you a message rather than just signing their name. It also gives the guests and the newlyweds a chance to learn more about the city as it is being signed or read after the honeymoon! Here’s an example from one of our recent weddings….

Avoiding the stress

Planning your wedding should be one of the most exciting times in your life, but it could very easily turn into one of the most stressful times from one thing – the budget. Everyone wants their day to be perfect and as they’ve dreamed it; however, not everyone has the funds needed to make the dream a reality.

So what can be done to keep costs down?

Pick a day other than Saturday – the majority of venues will discount site/rental fees for other days of the week.

Become a DIYer or ask for help from friends and family  – find a local floral vendor to purchase flowers and have your bridesmaids help you create the centerpieces or ask that aunt known for her baking skills to bake the cake. If you look at the list of necessities for the wedding you’ll be surprised what you can actually handle yourself.

Here is a wonderful article with more ways to save on your wedding from Real Simple – be sure to check out all the great tips!

Wondering What to Wear?

Finding the perfect attire for your own wedding is always a fun task, but figuring out what to wear as the guest at a wedding can be far from enjoyable. It is a well-known fact that weddings starting at 6pm or later are considered “formal,” but what does that term really mean these days? Hopefully you are able to look at the invitation for a little guidance – black tie optional, black tie requested – even then you may need a little guidance. We found this helpful article last month on CBS News. Be sure to check it out if you are struggling with an outfit selection for a wedding this summer!

Beating the Heat

Happy Monday! We hope everyone had a wonderful Father’s Day weekend with family!

After a cooler than normal spring, the heat has set in here in the south. With so many wonderful outdoor ceremony venues around us, the concern of keeping guests cool comes into play. Need a few pointers? Start a little later in the day to avoid the hottest time of the day and avoid direct sun when setting up the seating area. Have a drink station at the ceremony – ice water and cold lemonade offered to the guests before they take their seats is a very nice touch. What about getting them through the ceremony when the cup runs dry? Place a fan on each chair during set up – a nice southern touch! Here are a few visuals…..

Happy Father's Day!

Some of our favorite wedding moments are of the bride and her father. A comforting squeeze before walking down the aisle, turning their “little girl” over to the groom, or the father-daughter dance – they are all magical moments that are cherished for a lifetime. In honor of Father’s Day we wanted to share a few images that capture these moments.

Signs

Whether you are a crafty bride or hire someone for the task, adding a sign or two to your wedding décor is creative and practical. You may need to let people know the way to the ceremony versus the reception, that they can leave their shoes behind for a beach ceremony, or that they can sit on whichever side they prefer. Passing along information on a cute sign is a great way to go. Here are a few of our favorites we’ve come across….enjoy!

a lot of little cakes

If you are looking for a way to have a table full of different cake flavors from which your guests can choose their favorite, we suggest the growing trend of cupcakes. These adorable little cakes can be customized to fit in with your color theme or you can have an array of colors to add a pop to the cake table. Worried you won’t be able to have the traditional cake cutting experience and photo-op with your new spouse? Fear not, many cupcakeries will make a small “top layer” for you to cut. Here are a few pictures to give you a visual…. and maybe get your sweet tooth going on this Thursday morning!

A cake for him

Happy Wednesday! Today we will sway a little from the traditional wedding cake and feature a tradition that started in the Victorian Era of Britain – the groom’s cake. Although the tradition is rarely still followed in Britain, it is a tradition we picked up in the southern United States. Another great reason to choose the south as your wedding location!

The groom’s cake is usually a unique flavor or shape focusing on the groom’s interests, such as the ones below….enjoy!

Flavors Galore

Although a white cake may come to your mind as the classic wedding cake flavor, there are now endless flavor options available. You can pick your favorite  cake flavor, add  a yummy filling in the middle, and top with a decadent icing. From red velvet, to carrot cake, cheesecake, pound cake, or strawberry….the list goes on and on.

Interested in a classic white cake, but want to add a little flair? Try soaking it in Chambord, adding a raspberry cream filling between layers, and topping with a buttercream icing. If you are having a hard time deciding on the perfect combination check with your bakery, it’s possible to have each layer a different flavor.

You may be wondering which flavor is winning in popularity these days….Chocolate! With that in mind we had to share this picture of one of our beautiful bride’s, Deedra, sneaking a taste of her cake made by the talented Pam Vickers.

cake, cake, and more cake

Happy Monday! We hope everyone enjoyed the weekend. As mentioned on Friday, this week we are going to focus on cakes – the dessert that is always a topic of conversation at any wedding, shower, or party.

Today, we’ll start with the basics….the size of cake. The majority of the time your baker will know the size needed based on the number of guests you are expecting. For those DIYers out there, or just in case you want to  make sure you will have enough for those guests craving seconds but not so much that you are eating cake for weeks after your event, here is a great guide to follow from the team at Let Them Eat Cakes. Be sure to check out their stunning gallery while visiting their page!
